Our granddaughters have every conceivable toy under the sun, from dolls to computer games, to iPods, to wii, you name it. Yet they still love to go outside and make "fairy houses" where the tables are made out of big rocks, and the chairs are little stones, and a walnut shell is a big "salad bowl" full of seeds and leaves for the fairies. They line up little stones to make pathways and make a big comfy bed for the Queen fairy out of leaves and moss. I love to watch them using their imaginations and they're quite good at it. Our grandson is only 9 months old but I think I'm going to save up the "light sabers" - I mean the cardboard tubes for him for when he's old enough. ;^)
Good blog, Aaron. Hey! What ever happened to those big necklaces?

When people are scared or angry they look for a scapegoat to focus their fear/hate. Right now it's Mexicans. It's very easy to blame our society's problems on a group that is perceived as the "other". In Europe it was the Jews who became the scapegoats when Germany was devastated after losing WW1. It didn't take too much for Hitler to convince Germany that Jews were the source of all their problems. It's frightening to think what might be the "final solution" in this country.

Anyone who thinks Americans would never do something as horrible as Auschwitz hasn't visited the Manzanita Japanese Internment Camp here in California. While it wasn't quite the inferno hellhole that the Nazi camps were, many Japanese lived in squalid conditions and died there for lack of care.

I've heard so many people blame Mexicans for our health care problems. They get blamed for our poor schools, everything. It's always easy to blame the "others" - that way we don't have to look in the mirror and realize we are part of the problem.

John- Thank you for sharing and for reinforcing the negative attitude conservatives have. I have found very few, if any, who can actually engage in a conversation without resorting to insults. You actually managed to make one or two valid points, but of course you undid yourself with the 'snarky' attitude you accuse liberals of having. And, of course, you make the same mistake most conservatives make, you confuse liberal with democrat and conservative with republican. There are conservative democrats and liberal republicans. And as for the comment that having the United States becoming a third world nation would bring a smile to our faces, well that just proves how completely, mind-blowingly stupid you people truly are (as if making Sara Palin a celebrity wasn't stupid enough). By the way, if you don't want e-mails from me why did you respond? Be a man.

Way to set up a straw man. From the start you (or your source) set up a false definition of what a conservative is. A conservative does not automatically poopoo any new idea. He looks at new ideas through the lens of the old and poopoo's any new idea that would require the loss of some essential good that we currently have in exchange for something that is probably not a good idea, hence "conservative" as in conserve what is good. The founders wanted to conserve freedoms such as taxation with representation. To that end they proposed the idea of a new nation that would conserve freedom. Conservatism is not against giving a person who is down on their luck a hand. What a conservative is against is enabling those who would abuse the system so that they don't have to do their fare share of work. I still don't feel that it is a legitimate use of government force to provide for the unfortunate that is the job of the church or other charitable organization. A nation cannot engage in charity only individuals can. I believe that individuals in America have a duty to care for the less fortunate but it cannot be forced on the people by government guns and tax laws. People just need to do the right thing. Not doing the right thing has its own punishment built in because it gives dumbass liberals like you ammunition to say that we should make charity a government function (thereby removing any spiritual value). The health care system in the country was fine as a private service. The fact is that liberals put many laws into place to stifle competition among insurance companies which led to high prices. Making healthcare and charity a government function is unsustainable and will result in the United States ending up as a third world nation which I know would bring a smile to many a snarky communist liberal face. I don't want any e-mails from you.

When I get an email like this, I usually check snopes.com first. Klint has even joked about being required to check snopes before you can forward an email. 99% of the time, IT'S TOTAL FABRICATED BULLSHIT. If it is, send it back to every CC on the sender list. Although they probably just tell you snopes.com is liberal hogwash. These people have little interest in reality, or they wouldn't think they way they do.

Klint just listened to a piece on NPR that stated that x percentage of traffic stops are of people who look like "illegal" immigrants, but a very small percentage of those are actually charged with a crime. (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5365863)

In fact, a lot of "illegal" immigrants will leave the scene of a crime because they fear getting deported. And as I pointed out on facebook, it costs the average Mexican 2 years worth of wages to legally move to America. It seems unreasonable to demand that they go through a very long, expensive process simply because they are trying to find decent work.

There is no way to deny our economy would collapse without them. They are the reason tomatoes don't cost $6, the reason why cheap hotels are clean, the reason why we have cheap food in restaurants. These idiots don't understand they can't have it both ways. If you ask me, it's pure racism, plain and simple. Same with Obama and the "birthers"... they can find any excuse to justify their distrust, but I think it all comes down to a perceived an "outside" threat. That, and it's much easier to kick down the ladder that LOOK UP and ask yourself where the real problem is.

I feel it's worth noting that liberals:
-fostered the notion that affluent whites should spread out and build suburbs and nuclear families
-led us into the Vietnam War
-inflated currency
-signed Japanese internment camps into effect
-dropped nuclear bombs on Japan
-denied Haitian refugees asylum (Carter, Clinton)
-greenlighted invasions that intentionally killed many civilians (Cuba, Sudan)
-lied about such activites

Grant (conservative) wrote amendments 13, 14, and 15 which gave blacks and minorities equal rights. Before Reagan, Republicans actually stood for the things they claim to- the little guy, small business, and less government spending (including unnecessary warfare). Ever since Reagan, champion of selfish politics of the individual, things have been very different. After Jimmy Carter's disastrous presidency (and I say this because I think we just weren't ready for him) America took a very cold, hard turn. They became a vehicle for the Industrial-Military Complex and Big Business to wreak as much havoc as it possibly could. And the people pulling the strings then are still pulling the strings now. Obama, as seems to be clearly evidenced, will not be able to accomplish much because the real people in charge won't let him. I don't mean to sound like a conspiracy nut, but we all know the president does not equal the government.

If you haven't already, you should watch "the Century of the Self" (http://www.archive.org/details/AdaCurtisCenturyoftheSelf_0) and "the Power of Nightmares" (http://www.archive.org/details/ThePowerOfNightmares). These 2 movies changed my life! Then, something equally telling of our sick society, but at least uplifting: http://theyesmen.org/
